Dryer Not Heating in Etobicoke | Vent Cleaning & Repair

March 5, 2026 ~4 min read

Dryer not heating is a common problem we see in Etobicoke homes. Recently our technicians were called to inspect a dryer that stopped producing heat even though the homeowner tried cleaning the vent themselves.

The Problem: Dryer Not Heating

The homeowner contacted us after noticing several warning signs:

  • Clothes were taking much longer than usual to dry

  • The dryer eventually stopped producing heat

  • The machine seemed to run, but clothes stayed wet

Interestingly, the dryer was only about 5 years old, which means it should normally still operate without major issues.

Because of this, we suspected restricted airflow inside the dryer vent system.

What We Found During Inspection

After disconnecting the appliance and inspecting the dryer and ventilation system, we discovered that the dryer vent was still heavily clogged with lint, despite the homeowner’s attempt to clean it.

A large amount of lint had accumulated both:

  • inside the dryer vent pipe

  • inside the dryer itself

Because the airflow was restricted, hot air could not escape properly from the machine.

Over time this caused the dryer to overheat, which eventually burned out the heating element.

Why This Happens

Many homeowners don’t realize that dryers rely on proper airflow through the vent system.

When the vent becomes blocked:

  1. Hot air stays trapped inside the dryer

  2. Internal temperatures rise beyond normal levels

  3. Key components begin to fail

The heating element is often the first part to break when the dryer overheats.

Even newer dryers — like this one that was only five years old — can fail quickly if the vent is blocked.

What Our Technicians Did

To fix the issue, our technicians performed several steps.

Full Dryer Inspection

We inspected the dryer and the entire vent system to locate the blockage and confirm the cause of failure.

Dryer Disassembly

To access the damaged heating element, the dryer had to be partially disassembled.

Deep Internal Cleaning

Lint buildup inside the machine was removed to restore proper airflow.

Dryer Vent Cleaning

The dryer vent pipe was fully cleaned to remove the remaining lint blockage.

Heating Element Replacement

The burned heating element was replaced with a new one, restoring proper heating function.

After the repair, the dryer was tested to ensure safe airflow and proper heating performance.

The Result

After cleaning the vent and replacing the heating element:

  • The dryer returned to normal operation

  • Clothes dried quickly again

  • Airflow through the vent system was restored

  • The risk of overheating or fire was eliminated

The homeowner was relieved to have their laundry system working properly again.

Why DIY Dryer Vent Cleaning Often Isn’t Enough

Many homeowners attempt to clean dryer vents themselves using small brushes or vacuum attachments.

While this can remove some lint near the opening, it often does not reach the deeper sections of the vent pipe.

Lint can remain trapped inside:

  • long vent runs

  • bends in the duct

  • the dryer housing itself

Over time this buildup can lead to:

  • dryer overheating

  • heating element failure

  • longer drying cycles

  • higher electricity bills

  • potential fire hazards

Professional equipment is usually required to fully clear the vent system.
