Recently, we received a call from a homeowner in Ajax who was dealing with a strong, unpleasant smell coming from the laundry area.

What We Found
After arriving on site, we inspected the dryer vent system and quickly noticed that the vent was not properly protected.
We disassembled the vent line to investigate further — and immediately found the issue:
👉 A dead mouse inside the dryer vent duct.
This is actually more common than people think, especially when vents are missing proper exterior covers or screens.
Why This Happens
When a dryer vent is not properly sealed or protected:
- small animals can get inside the duct
- they may get trapped and die inside
- this leads to strong odors and potential health risks
It can also partially block airflow, which makes your dryer less efficient and can become a fire hazard over time.
What We Did
- Fully removed the blockage (dead rodent)
- Cleaned and sanitized the vent line
- Checked airflow to ensure proper operation
- Advised on installing proper vent protection to prevent future issues
The Result
The odor was completely eliminated, and the dryer system was restored to safe working condition.
